Medical Tattooing

Areola tattooing, also known as Medical Tattooing, is a highly specialised form of tattooing primarily recognized for reconstructing and enhancing the nipple and areola. This practice is particularly renowned for its creation of lifelike 3D Reconstruction Nipple Tattoos for breast cancer survivors following mastectomy surgery, playing a significant role in their healing journey by restoring confidence and promoting body positivity.

3D Reconstruction Nipple Tattoos also serve as an excellent option for individuals who have undergone top surgery (gender reassignment surgery), nipple reconstruction or grafts, or any breast surgery resulting in nipple loss or compromise. Leveraging her extensive skillset, knowledge, and artistic flair gained from her traditional tattooing career, Tanya excels in crafting beautifully realistic areola tattoos for individuals of all backgrounds.

Moreover, areola tattooing offers versatility in enhancing natural nipples by adding shape, increasing size, or enriching colour. It serves as an ideal solution post-breast enlargements or reductions to camouflage scarring as well.

If you’re tattooing over scar tissue, it’s essential to wait until the scar has fully matured, which can range from 3 months to 2 years depending on individual circumstances, types of surgery, and/or cancer treatments. Generally, a scar is considered matured when it’s no longer red or pigmented, has softened, and is no longer tender or itchy.

Tattooing over scar tissue before it’s fully matured increases the risk of further damaging the scar and causing additional trauma to the skin, resulting in a poorly healed or faded tattoo.

For breast cancer survivors, it is recommended waiting at least 12 months post-mastectomy surgery and 6 months post-cancer treatment (such as chemo and radiotherapy). This allows the body to fully recover and gives time for emotional healing, ensuring readiness to embrace the new body and areola tattoo positively.

For top surgeries involving nipple grafts, it’s advisable to wait until the graft is fully healed and settled, which may take up to 2 years. Similarly, for those opting not to reattach or reconstruct the areola during top surgery, it is suggests waiting a minimum of 6 months before getting the Areola Tattoo done to allow for full recovery.

In cases of cosmetic breast surgery where the tattoo is not near the surgery scar tissue, it is advisable to wait at least 6 months. However, if the tattoo is on or near scar tissue, waiting a minimum of 12 months (or until the scarring has matured) is advisable, depending on individual circumstances.
